Les épouvantails

Tunisia, 2013. Twenty-something Zina and Djo return home from Syria. There they were held captive and raped by radical Islamists. Zina is separated from her two-month-old baby and Djo is unwantedly pregnant; that makes her gag. Djo tries to process her terrible experiences by writing about it. The Tunisian lawyer Nadia and the doctor Dora take care of her and support her in the long processing process, which is further complicated by the violence in her own family circle and the harsh criticism in her social environment. Nadia is also Driss's lawyer, a 21-year-old homosexual who is excluded from all school facilities in Tunisia. Zina and Driss become friends and help each other to deal with the trauma that has been sustained. However, Djo remains bewitched by past demons. She cannot process Syria's horrible memories and commits suicide.
